Karen Baumgaertner has worked in the international sector for over 20 years. In 2005 she founded the Minnesota International NGO Network, the state’s largest professional network of international humanitarian workers. She serves as an instructor at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and an international project management consultant.
Karen has worked in a wide range of international organizations and settings and managed projects in over 20 countries. She formerly held Top Secret clearance in the federal government, organized gubernatorial trade missions abroad, worked for a small international medical NGO, as well as a multi-million dollar US government agricultural NGO, and most recently as an independent consultant. She holds a M.A. in International Development from American University and a B.A. in International Political Economics from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Karen is an original Minnesota Advisory Committee member for the United States Global Leadership Coalition. She is passionate about doing global good better, and greatly enjoys the opportunity to encourage responsible engagement among international practitioners.
