Dr. Gemechu is an adjunct Assistant Professor at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Before coming to Saint Mary’s, Dr. Gemechu taught a course in Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development at the University of Minnesota, and has been an invited guest speaker in several graduate classes on addressing methods of change in developing countries and world problems. He has also served on OSAIWA (Office of Student Affairs Internationalizing Working Group – University of Minnesota) established to devise institutional strategies for improving collaboration among campus-wide units aimed at realizing intercultural competence and enhancing support to international students.
Prior to coming to the U.S., Dr. Gemechu served local and international non-governmental organizations in multiple capacities (capacity building enhancer, trainer and development programs manager). He provided leadership oversight for designing, planning, execution and evaluation of development projects/ programs working with local communities, donors, multi-disciplinary practitioners, and stakeholders at local, national and global levels for over ten years.
Dr. Gemechu received his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development, with a concentration in Human Resource Development, from University of Minnesota, M.A. in Development Studies/ International Development from Leeds University and B.A. in Sociology and Social Administration from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. In his spare time, Dr. Gemechu volunteers and helps new immigrants navigate resources for employment, education, and health care services; and serves on NGO boards.
