Dr. Barnes is currently a Senior Outcomes Researcher at OptumInsight (UnitedHealth Group) with over 18 years of experience. Previously, Dr. Barnes was at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, the University of Minnesota, and the University of South Carolina. Dr. Barnes has an interdisciplinary background spanning the fields of epidemiology, medicine, geography, health informatics, data science, and social sciences with expertise in study design, methodology, data analysis, and dissemination of research findings. Overall, his work centers upon identifying and addressing factors that contribute to and influence healthcare delivery and health-related outcomes in a range of populations.
Dr. Barnes received a B.S. in Applied Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a M.P.H. from Emory University, and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of South Carolina. Most recently, Dr. Barnes completed a Master of Health Informatics from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Barnes has published in many high impact journals including the American Journal of Epidemiology, Annals of Epidemiology, Preventing Chronic Diseases, Health & Place, and the Journal of Pediatrics.
