At the beginning of a project, the finish line seems far away. But in reality, there are numerous finish lines along the way. Project scheduling, like estimating, requires viewing each task as both a separate entity and part of the overall project.
A Request for Proposal (RFP) is a document that states, comprehensively and in detail, what is required from a sponsor’s and/or customer’s point of view to address the identified need. In order to ensure that you are able to give contractors the most accurate and relevant information about a project, you’ll learn the necessary steps to develop a properly formatted RFP.

Each week, you’ll focus on a new centralized topic as it relates to the overall objectives of this course. While weekly topics are subject to change based on course and instructor, sample topics may include but are not limited to the following.

A work breakdown structure (WBS) is a deliverable-oriented hierarchical decomposition of the project work scope into work packages that produce the project. You’ll complete activities that will give you insight into creating a hierarchical tree of deliverables (work items) and a WBS.
You’ll see how to determine whether a project can be done within required project time constraints based on the estimated durations for each activity in the network, while taking into account the interdependencies between tasks. You’ll also learn to estimate the types and quantities of resources required to perform each activity in a project.
Working on a large project, you’ll prepare all necessary project management documents to complete a project within the timeframe of this course.
Any project involves a degree of risk. You’ll determine what is required to manage risks, qualitatively identify high-level risks and document appropriately. You’ll also examine the factors associated with project change, as well as the necessary steps to closing out a project.
Your Learning Objectives
In PRM 601 Project Scope and Scheduling, you’ll examine activities related to project planning and scheduling.
- Plan and estimate project scope, resources, and schedule.
- Evaluate the environment in which the project operates using project management documents.
- Prepare scope baseline including requirements traceability matrix, scope statement, and work breakdown structure.
- Prepare schedule baseline by developing a network diagram, estimating activities durations, and developing project schedule.
- Prepare an integrated project schedule incorporating resources using automated scheduling tool.
- Apply appropriate estimating techniques to scope and schedule processes.
- Identify factors that create project change.
