Cary is a licensed social worker currently living in Chicago, IL. Cary completed both his MSW and PhD in Social Work from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA and is a 2019 transplant to the Midwest via his home state of California. Cary has years of practice experience with the LGBTQIA+ community. His service experiences include a number of years at an HIV and substance use prevention setting in San Diego CA where he was an HIV test counselor and facilitated a clean syringe access program. Cary also has numerous publications on the behavioral health and well-being of LGBTQ people across social contexts, in addition to literature on the intersection of feminist and ecological theories and their potential for use in social work to address the climate crisis. Cary continues to support LGBTQ and all families through clinical practice and research in an acute psychiatric setting in Chicago, IL, and in collaboration with the Sexuality Relationships and Gender Research Collective at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI and with the Center for LGBT Health Equity at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work in Los Angeles, CA.
