Mari Akre’s career in nursing has spanned more than 35 years, from early-career roles in pediatric and psychiatric nursing through a series of healthcare leadership roles emphasizing healthcare informatics and technology.
She offers students real-world insights in advanced nursing leadership from her current role as senior director of clinical informatics, clinical integration, and technology solutions for the University of Minnesota Physicians Clinics. In that role, she provides leadership in identifying, evaluating, and implementing innovative technology solutions that support effective, efficient patient care.
Mari earned her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Child & Family Studies Department, where she wrote her dissertation on raising chronically ill children and parental well-being. She also holds an MSN from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BSN from Viterbo University.
